A forest-led journey through Bukavu and Kahuzi-Biega, centred on rainforest, mountain landscapes, conservation and the remarkable Grauer’s gorilla.
Arrive in Bukavu and settle beside Lake Kivu. Spend the afternoon exploring the city’s hills and lakeside surroundings, beginning to understand the distinctive character of this part of Congo. Overnight: Bukavu.
Travel from Bukavu toward Kahuzi-Biega and enter the forest with local guides. Follow the changing terrain through rainforest and mountain habitat, with time to explore the biodiversity and conservation story of this remarkable ecosystem. Overnight: Bukavu / Kahuzi-Biega region.
When gorilla trekking is operating and permits are available, enter the forest for a guided encounter with Grauer’s gorillas. Return toward Bukavu before continuing with onward travel. Journey concludes.
