A focused ascent of Mount Nyiragongo, moving from Goma through stark volcanic terrain toward one of the Virunga massif’s most dramatic summits.
Travel from Goma toward the trailhead and begin the climb. The route rises through changing volcanic terrain, gradually leaving the city behind as the mountain takes over the landscape. Reach the summit and settle into mountain accommodation, surrounded by the high volcanic landscape. Overnight: Nyiragongo summit.
Begin the morning above the Virunga landscape before starting the descent. Return through the volcanic terrain toward Goma for onward travel. Journey concludes.
